Kernwaffe - what it is
- Kernwaffe {f} (german) = nuclear weapon - military
The Story:
In February 2001, Fynbos and some of his fellow students got drunk really bad and started a discussion, what means it would take to destroy the City of Carthago in todays time.
(As said, they were drunk...)
All of a sudden, one of those students jumped on a table, and, imposing the famous speech of Cato the Elder ("Cathargo must be destroyed!") shouted out, that it has to be destroyed with a nuclear weapon.
(Drunk, I say!)
Fynbos, sitting below that guy on the table, feeling very well thanks to Mr Martini and Mr Beer, suddently began to wonder if the domain "kernwaffe.de" would be taken allready, since it was the early years of domain grabbing and he was one of the quick grabbers of useful, though idiotic-named domains.
Back home, about 6 hours, endless discussions and a near one-nightstand later, he immedeatly turned on the monitor (who shuts down?) and found, to his very suprise, that the domain was not taken yet.
1 Minute later it was.
For the next 3 years it was used by him for different projects, mostly as eMail-Domain, but also as a platform for school-homework-projects about nukes, atomic explosions and info about proliferation.
Basing on that the domain climbed up the search engine latters and became the second best known source for images or even small films about "Kernwaffen" (nukes).
In 2004 Fynbos, freshly mastered Bachelor of Management, was offered a big new job in southern Germany, where he became boss of DocHinkebein, apprentice for IT Engineering in the same company.
Doc, allready fan of Enemy Territory, showed the game to Fynbos and over the next days they set up a Public Server for it, using old computer parts.
When looking for a cool and easy to remember name for the server listing, they had the idea to use a at least for germans easy understandable name:
Kernwaffe.
Well... the rest is history...
Kernwaffe.de became the major website for the project and since 2004 the servers ran most of the time problem free.
After a short time the servers moved to the Collocation Server Center in Frankfurt, Germany, where they reside until we cannot pay for the bills anymore.
(Hehe, and that will take a lot of time, believe me...)
Today, 01. December of 2007, the Website got a new layout,
and Silver, als leading project guy for it, wanted me to write down the Kernwaffe.de History for you all.
So, please enjoy the new site,
enjoy our servers even more,
and one day, when we all are a little older, I maybe will tell you, why Kernwaffe.de files are packed onto the domain of www.vereinte-nationen.de (United Nations Website).
regards
Fynbos
